How barn find rumors are triggered

Barn finds do not appear on the world map immediately. Each one is gated behind a ‘Barn Find Rumor’ that is unlocked through Horizon Adventure progression, Accolade Points and certain Expedition objectives.

“All the Barn Finds only show up on the map after completing a ‘Barn Find Rumor’, which is tied to finishing races and earning ‘Accolade Points’ as you play, which come from the Horizon Adventure chapters.”

Once a rumor unlocks, a large purple circle with a barn icon appears on the map. Drive into the circle and look for an old white building with yellow doors; entering the barn starts a cutscene and adds the car to your garage after a restoration timer.

A handful are tied directly to Expedition or story content rather than the generic Accolade drip:

Do Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure add new barn finds?

No. Neither paid expansion adds barn finds.

Hot Wheels (July 19, 2022) is set in the Horizon Hot Wheels Park ‘high above the clouds’ overlooking Mexico. It adds 10 new cars, the new orange-track park map and an 80-piece EventLab set, but the new map has no derelict barns and no barn-find cars; new cars are unlocked through the Horizon Hot Wheels Academy story and seasonal events instead.

Rally Adventure (March 29, 2023) is set in the Sierra Nueva rally region with co-driver-called stage rallies. It also adds new cars (including the 2001 Ford #4 Focus RS and 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum), but they are unlocked through the Grit Reapers, Horizon Raptors and No Limits crew progression and event rewards, not from barns.

Push the main Horizon Adventure chapters first. Most rumors drip in as you complete events across the Road Racing, Cross Country, Street Racing, Dirt and Horizon Open chapters and earn Accolade Points, so progressing the campaign is the fastest way to unlock rumors.
Finish the four Expeditions. Baja, Wilds, Apex and Horizon Stories Expeditions are tied to four of the 14 barn finds (Renault 4L, Ford Escort Mk1, Jaguar XJR-15, GMC Jimmy). Skipping Expeditions will leave four cars permanently inaccessible.
Buy the treasure map perk. Once you have the Mexico Treasure Map (separate DLC purchase) every unlocked barn icon stays visible on the map, making it trivial to drive to each one as soon as the rumor fires. > “I have the treasure map and they show so just driving to each when I’m in the area.”
